Much Ado About Nothing - Summer 2007

THE LINCOLN SHAKESPEARE COMPANY
presents
‘Much Ado About Nothing’
 by William Shakespeare

Press Release

The Lincoln Shakespeare Company is delighted to announce that we will present ‘Much Ado about Nothing’ at the Medieval Bishops’ Palace in Lincoln from July 24th to August 4th 2007.

“They never meet but there’s a skirmish of wit between them.” Welcome to Messina, the setting for one of Shakespeare’s funniest and most heart felt comedies. Let the Lincoln Shakespeare Company transport you to the beautiful Italian countryside, in Lincoln’s very own Medieval Bishops Palace. On a lovely warm summers evening you can enjoy a picnic in the grounds before being entertained by the razor sharp wit of Benedict, the fiery nature of Beatrice and a full cast of lovers, villains and, oh yes, comedy guardsmen. All presented in: FULLY AUTHENTIC PERIOD COSTUME.

So what’s it all about?  Don Pedro, the Prince of Aragon, has returned from a successful Campaign to the house of Leonato in Messina. With him are his two Lieutenants and trusted friends, the brash, quick-witted Benedict and the heroic, noble Claudio. Claudio quickly falls in love with Leonato’s daughter Hero, whilst Benedict occupies himself by clashing wits with Leonato’s fiery niece Beatrice. Proposals are made and love is in the air but is someone trying to sabotage everyone’s happiness? Will love triumph over evil? Will everyone live happily ever after? And will Dogberry, captain of the watch, ever make any sense? We can only hope!
With 15 years of experience the LSC is guaranteed to put on a show that is of the highest quality whilst remaining accessible to audiences of all ages. There is something in this play for everyone, from fast talking complex witticisms to slapstick and pratfalls. This is truly a show that anyone can enjoy.
LSC veteran Chas Rodgers will direct the play.  With the emphasis on going all out to get an historically accurate portrayal of the time period, a whole wardrobe of period costumes have been purchased to give the play that extra sense of realism. Not only will this be an hilarious night for all but also a chance to see the beautiful gowns and dashing costumes of the noblemen and women of the time.

The play opens for a ten-night run at the Medieval Bishops’ Palace on Lincoln from July 24th until August 4th (excluding Thursdays).  All performances start at 7.30pm. Tickets are priced at £9 and £6-50 concessions. Lincoln ticket outlets are the Medieval Bishops Palace (01522 527 468), Goodies Sweet Shop in The Strait, Lincoln (01522 525307), The Whisky Shop, Bailgate, Lincoln (01522 537834) and online at www.lincolnshakespeare.co.uk
