The Lincoln Shakespeare Company are embarking
on their 27th production with an erie representation of Macbeth.
The production is to be staged at the Museum of Lincolnshire Life
on Burton Road. A first for the company and one which is to become
the start of a new relationship. The Museum is not new to staging
theatre and in the summer hosted the popular Illyria Theatre Company.
The play will be staged in the large room at the back of the Museum
which usually houses the hearses (very apt for a production of Macbeth!!)
The company is following on from its successful
summer show Much Ado About Nothing and many of the cast
who delighted audiences in the summer with their 1940s take
on the play made popular by Kenneth Brannagh will be transferring
their comedic skills to drama.
The show will be very dark and full of witchcraft
said company spokesman Lisa Melligan." Hopefully the audience
will get a sense of the atmosphere from the play and the venue.
The company are hoping the play will appeal to
students of English and Theatre Studies as well as their regular
theatre going audience. The play is a regular on GCSE and
A Level syllabuses said Lisa And we hope that if students
are studying the play in Lincoln and the surrounding area they will
take the opportunity to see a production that is close to home.
The company are also prepared to talk to students about their interpretation
of the play as well as their individual interpretation of characters.
As well as the educational angle of the play the
company are hoping their regular audiences are looking forward to
seeing the return of a well loved play which was first performed
by the company in 1994. This time the leading role will be taken
by well known company member, Rob Smith who played a witch in the
original LSC production.
Making a well deserved return from Much Ado will
be Pete Came playing doomed king, Duncan, Avril Hall playing 3rd
Witch along side some new faces. Phil Bell is a new comer to the
company playing Lennox. Phil cheekily approached me front
of house at Much Ado and asked me for a part said director
Jo Ramsay. I couldnt believe his cheek so I gave him
one, and I am glad I did said Jo.
The play will run from Thursday 8th November to
Saturday 17th November (excluding Sunday 11th November and Monday
12th November). The show will start at 7.30pm and ticket prices
are £7.50 for adults and £5.00 (conc). Details of discounts
for parties are available from the company on 01522 889859.
Tickets are available from Goodies of Lincoln
